Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) is an independent
non-profit organization, founded in September
2002 with full support from the SAR Government
and the Hong Kong Jockey Club, with the
objective to encourage and promote local
design excellence and a vision to establish
Hong Kong as a design hub in the international
arena. HKDC has four founding members, namely,
the Hong Kong Designers Association; the
Hong Kong Interior Designers Association;
the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association
and the Hong Kong Chartered Society of Designers,
representing about 1,000 members of the
design industry.
The HKDC works with Government, business
partners and associations to promote design
as a strategic, value-adding component in
business. In essence, HKDC serves as a link
between businesses and designers in Hong
Kong. HKDC is the first organization in
Hong Kong dedicated to using all their resources
in promoting design for business. It aims
to encourage, inspire, support and facilitate
the best use of design in the business world.
By so doing, HKDC strives to contribute
to the sustainable competitiveness, economic
prosperity and overall well-being of Hong
Kong.
HKDC is active in organizing events and
activities that promote the use of design
in business. By creating a sense of belonging
among designers in Hong Kong, it offers
a united platform where ideas, knowledge
and information can be shared not just throughout
the design community but also local business
sectors as well. HKDC disseminates information
and maintains open channels of communication
with international design organizations,
keeping Hong Kong abreast of the rest of
the world.
