A special highlight of this year's BODW
is the launch of "Design for Asia Award".
This award aims to highlight the outstanding
achievements of companies, for their innovative
and pragmatic use of design that have created
a major impact on our lifestyle. These excellent
examples will become successful business
models for companies who wish to excel in
the Asian markets.
With the advent of the industrial revolution,
products are now mass-produced selling to
every corner of the world. Traditionally,
products are mostly designed in Europe and
America, thus satisfying the lifestyle needs
of the West. However, in recent years considerably
more designs, including product, interior,
apparel and communications designs, have
been designed and produced to meet the specific
requirements of the Asian consumers.
Recent trend in developing good designs
for Asian have improved their quality of
life, making work, living and play more
enjoyable and fun. Good designs have also
heightened our appreciation for the environment
we live in; making us more conscious of
our own existence; and instilling value
into our life.
As half of the world's population is living
in Asia, recognizing and giving credit to
those who can identify the innermost desires
and needs of the Asian people, enable us
to create repeat success. With the enormous
market potential of the East many companies
have begun to develop a keen eye for design
to help meet the cultural and practical
needs of the people living in this region.
A panel of overseas and local judges of
international standing will be selecting
from hundreds of nominations and eventually
grant up to 10 most outstanding Design for
Asia Awards. The award will cover areas
from products, interiors, apparel to communication
designs that have been serving the Asian
community well. In addition to the Design
for Asia Award, up to 5 Outstanding China
Designs will be selected to acknowledge
good design practice in China. These designs
are not mutually exclusive.
